Our opinion:<\/h3>\n\n<p>Reynisfjara is definitely worth a visit for its natural beauty and unique geological features.  <br\/>This black sand beach impresses with its basalt cliffs, sea pillars and powerful waves crashing onto the shore.<br\/>In winter, the contrast between black sand and white snow is spellbinding.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s one of the <a Winter access road<\/h3>\n\n<p>By car<br\/>To reach the beach, turn onto Route 215 from Route 1. It&#8217;s 6 km to the parking lot.<br\/>In winter, the road is usually cleared fairly quickly.<\/p>\n\n<p>Normally, the roads are cleared quickly enough for access. Follow the instructions!<br\/>Not like the person in the photo below, who got his feet very wet.<br\/>No matter how many times you warn people, they just won&#8217;t listen&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Reynisfjara\/i-W6b44jW\/1\/7SPvgD3sqXgFqWrgWn5wBV9FxQS5S2cKMJnfKpLF\/L\/Reynisfjara_Black_Beach_Iceland-3637-L.jpg\" alt=\"dangerous waves\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The waves on Reynisfjara&#8217;s black sand beach represent a major and potentially fatal hazard (causing drowning) due to the phenomenon known as &#8220;sneaker waves&#8221;. These are disproportionate waves that appear without warning after a series of smaller waves.<br\/>What&#8217;s more, the steep slope of the beach creates a powerful undertow, further amplifying the force of the waves.<\/p>\n\n<p>So stay well away from the water&#8217;s edge, even if the waves don&#8217;t seem to get any higher for a while!<br\/>If the sand is so black, it&#8217;s because it&#8217;s frequently wet!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reynifjara_black_sand_beach\"><\/span>Reynifjara black sand beach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Reynisfjara\/i-9KP2sFn\/1\/FGqpGZztMNXTPHXtTpcQBJVQ7PxLtGFfxdHLRHfrg\/L\/Reynisfjara_Black_Beach_Iceland-3642-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Now you have all the cards to enjoy the place.<br\/>Formed by the erosion of volcanic rock and cooled lava, the sand takes on a deep black hue.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Reynisfjara\/i-3tJWCMp\/1\/C5H8StMBghKmGS9SvSkJj6DhCDQ8R4Q5JsG3xQVks\/L\/Reynisfjara_Black_Beach_Iceland-2168-L.jpg\" alt=\"long sandy beach\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The beach is 3 km long<br\/>In winter, black stands out even more with the contrast of white snow.<br\/>Reynisfjara is a place of immense power, where waves crash against the shore with thunderous force, shooting plumes of white spray into the air. And yet, in the midst of all this force, the black sand beach offers moments of calm and serenity.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_cave_and_basalt_columns\"><\/span>The cave and basalt columns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Reynisfjara\/i-FSjgsqD\/1\/D2bL6jsmVDnWHMZChrT3NVj7mkRxL6c5GPmW2n2N3\/L\/Reynisfjara_Black_Beach_Iceland-3627-L.jpg\" alt=\"The cave and basalt columns\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In addition to the black sand found on other Icelandic beaches, Reynsifjara is also a magnet for visitors with its H\u00e1lsanefshellir cave and remarkable basalt column formations on the cliffs.<br\/>You find yourself at the foot of an imposing wall of hexagonal basalt columns, perfectly formed by the cooling of lava flows from ancient volcanic eruptions.
