Our opinion:<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, Seljalandsfoss is worth a visit in winter, even if we prefer it in summer.<br\/>The 60 m waterfall stays in motion and doesn&#8217;t freeze, but the black cliffs around it are decorated with stalactites. The path behind the waterfall is closed, but you can still walk along the cliff to reach the hidden Gljufrabui waterfall.<br\/>It&#8217;s one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iceland-lovers.com\/en\/waterfalls-iceland-winter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most beautiful waterfalls to see in winter<\/a> and one of the must-see stops on <a Winter access road<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By car:<\/strong><br\/>The Seljalandsfoss waterfall is easy to reach.<br\/>It takes less than 5 minutes on a secondary road from Route 1. The waterfall is clearly signposted from the main road.<br\/>This access road is quickly cleared in winter.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Normally, the roads are cleared quickly enough for access. It&#8217;s brighter at the end of the day.<br\/>It&#8217;s a very popular spot, so it gets busier in the middle of the day.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Length of visit and main difficulties<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Allow at least 20 minutes to admire the waterfall and get close to it.<br\/>Allow a further 30min to walk along the cliffs, see the other Gljufrabui waterfall and return.<br\/>The path is flat.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful, with snow and ice on the ground, it can be slippery. The Seljalands River falls 60m from an ancient sea cliff.  <br\/>Water travels a long way from the Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull Glacier volcano.  <br\/>Admire the waterfall that doesn&#8217;t freeze over, but all the icy formations that cling to the edge of the cliff.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Close_to_the_waterfall\"><\/span>Close to the waterfall<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Seljalandsfoss\/i-QcF9zTW\/1\/FWBckmQKHn6M63BXBwDMTHkkvvVT4n56JxKDsr7nX\/L\/waterfall_Seljalandsfoss_Iceland-3592-L.jpg\" alt=\"Seljalandsfoss - under the waterfall\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then approach the waterfall. It&#8217;s one of the entrances to the path behind Seljalandsfoss.<br\/>The path is really slippery already in summer, so with the ice, we think it&#8217;s impossible to stand. It would be dangerous to let people go there unsupervised.<br\/>It is therefore closed in winter. Unfortunately. Don&#8217;t leave yet.<br\/>There&#8217;s a footpath along the cliff. We recommend taking this route to enjoy the views and discover another waterfall.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This trail is also maintained.
