Our opinion:<\/h3>\n\n<p>Yes, Skogafoss is definitely worth a visit in winter.  <br\/>Despite the cold temperatures, the 60-metre waterfall doesn&#8217;t freeze thanks to its powerful flow, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding snow and ice. It&#8217;s easily accessible from the Ring Road and, in our opinion, looks even more spectacular with a snowy backdrop.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iceland-lovers.com\/en\/waterfalls-iceland-winter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most beautiful waterfalls to see in winter<\/a> and one of the must-see stops on <a Winter access road<\/h3>\n\n<p><strong>By car:<\/strong><br\/>The Skogafoss waterfall is easy to reach.<br\/>It&#8217;s 2km down a side road from Route 1. The waterfall is clearly signposted from the main road.<br\/>This access road is quickly cleared in winter.<\/p>\n\n<p>Normally, the roads are cleared quickly enough for access. The waterfall faces south.<br\/>However, if you climb up to the platform, the view is to the west.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a very popular spot, so it&#8217;s busier during the day.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Length of visit and main difficulties<\/h3>\n\n<p>Allow at least 30min to admire the waterfall from below and get close to it.<br\/>And plan a 1-hour stop if you also want to go up to the platform and explore a bit more.<br\/>Access to the waterfall is flat, but to get to the upper platform, the staircase is quite steep and difficult for people with vertigo.<\/p>\n\n<p>Be careful, with snow and ice on the ground, it can be slippery. So it&#8217;s a bit tricky if you&#8217;re afraid of heights. I had to hold my hand under my eyes to keep from feeling dizzy.<br\/>It is located just above the waterfall, and allows you to see the flat arrival of the river, and the rough passage over the edge of the old cliff.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Iceland\/Winter\/South-Coast-in-Winter\/Skogafoss-Winter\/i-4XCR5qP\/1\/BnXWzqtbqLd32V5m6cKwRGNT3gFzhB5drbNnmg88\/L\/Waterfall_Skogafoss_Iceland-3613-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>You can also admire the pyramid-shaped mountain behind the waterfall. We find it very elegant with its contrasts of black and white.<br\/>However, in our opinion, the view is less impressive from the top.
